:: Another postcard! Josie has made it to Land's End:
30. Nov. 02In a raging gale with 4ft of flood water to forge and waterfalls of cold, late November rain running down my neck I finally arrived, bedraggled but happy, at Land's End. It has taken me 5041 waterlogged miles to cycle / aquaplane around the watery edges of England and Wales, and a whole lot more months and bananas than I ever envisaged. All good training though to tackle the saturated coastal delights of Ireland and Scotland next year. Meanwhile I'm writing book no. 5 (out Sept. 3. 03) and enjoying hot water and dry socks. Ta-ta for now ... |
09.12.02 :: November postcard no. 3 ... This time Josie has reached Newquay:
Nov.
02Time to lower the tone as I bid you all greetings from the saucy seaside town of Newquay mecca for all-season surfers. Doing quite a good job at surfing myself albeit on land thanks to surplus supplies of torrential rain. Met Office severe weather warnings have become a bit too frequent an occurrence for my liking. Oh well, who wants the sun when you can have rain?! |
02.12.02 :: Greetings from Cornwall ... Another postcard from Josie, hot on the heals of the last... 27.
Nov. 02Devon proved mountainous, Cornwall is proving even more mountainous punctuated by the odd free-falling over your handlebars on vertical descents. But come gales, come hail, come floods, come lack of porridge re-filling stations -- there's no stopping me now from reaching the End of the Land. Have just hit 5,000 mile mark -- most of which have felt uphill! |
02.12.02 :: Greetings from "Zummerzet"... Josie has reached South West England on her cycle ride around the coast of the British Isles, as her latest postcard attests... |
16. Nov. 02Watchet, Zummerzet As the rising flood waters play havoc with my sleeping bag, body and bottom bracket, I have come to the conclusion that November is perhaps not the most advisable month to go cycle-camping around the ragged edges of the Welsh and South West coasts. That said, I am now so cold and oily and muddy that I have reached that stage of utter horribleness which turns everything almost enjoyable. Send me a summer breeze soon, love Josie PS: after reading a review in CTC magazine about Eager Clothing's overshoes, have now added a pair to my watery collection of clothing. They work a treat just so long as you don't live outside for days in a continuous bucketing gale or have to ford through 2ft of flood water as I did yesterday afternoon. Keep wind out too. More info from Ruth Isaac at Eager Clothing, tel / fax: 01686 640873.
